Columbia University

Conceptual Foundations of International Politics is the core course in international relations theory for students of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.  The course consists of a weekly rotating lecture series with notable professors in the field of international affairs and public policy and weekly discussion sections.  The instructors for the course are Andrew Wellington Cordier Fellows, advanced graduate students and newly minted PhD's in the Social Sciences appointed to this honorary position through a competitive and meritocratic interview process.  The Cordier Fellows are responsible for sixty students each during the course of the semester.  They lead discussion sections, formulate exam questions, provide feedback on syllabus development, and evaluate and administer grades for students in their sections.  The University considers Cordier Fellows to be instructors and not TA’s, due to their extensive responsibilities and authority to administer grades to graduate students.  The course faculty advisor is Professor Stephen Sestanovich.
