Conceptual
Foundations of International Politics is the core
course in international relations theory for students of Columbia
University’s Graduate School of Public
and International Affairs. The course
consists of a weekly rotating lecture series with notable professors in
the
field of international affairs and public policy and weekly discussion
sections. The
instructors for the course are Andrew
Wellington Cordier Fellows, advanced graduate students and newly minted
PhD's in the Social
Sciences
appointed to this honorary position through a competitive and
meritocratic
interview process. The Cordier Fellows
are responsible for sixty students each during the
course of
the semester. They
lead
discussion sections, formulate exam questions, provide feedback on
syllabus
development, and evaluate and administer grades for students in their
sections. The University considers
Cordier Fellows to be instructors and not TA’s, due to their extensive
responsibilities and authority to administer grades to graduate
students. The course faculty advisor is
Professor
Stephen Sestanovich.
