Gray Tuttle is the Leila Hadley Luce Associate Professor of Modern Tibetan Studies at Department of East Asian Languages and Culture, Columbia University. His current manuscript project is "Amdo Tibet, Middle Ground between Lhasa and Beijing (1578-1865)," for which he was awarded a Charles A. Ryskamp Research Fellowship(2010). This work in progress examines how the intellectual and economic centers of Tibet shifted east to Amdo, a Tibetan cultural region the size of France in northwestern China. He has published a number of edited volumes and offered courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Most recently, The Chinese translation of his "Tibetan Buddhist in the Making of Modern China" (Columbia UP, 2005) was published by Hong Kong University Press.
