The Imperative is hardly a real verbal mood. It has distinct forms only in the second person singular and plural. This page deals with the various ways Spanish has to express commands, mostly using the 'Subjunctive'.

Correct!

Proper use of verbs and/or object pronouns for affirmative commands.

'Imperative' is used for second person singular and plural, 'Subjunctive' for all other cases. If present, the 'block of object pronouns' is postposed after the verb.

Hints?

Proper attachment of object pronouns and/or euphonic adjustments.

For positive commands, the total 'block of object pronouns' follows and combines with the verb to form one word, with the written accent adjusted to keep the original stress of the verb. Also, any final '-s' of the original verb is dropped if a double s would result or '-s' before reflexive pronouns. Similarly for the final '-d' in the 2nd person plural imperative before reflexive os (except for id).

  • Grammatical notes for the drills in this page.

The Imperative is hardly a real verbal mood. It has distinct forms only in the second person singular and plural. This page deals with the various ways Spanish has to express commands, mostly using the 'Subjunctive'.

    The items covered are:

    1) The use of verbs and/or object pronouns for affirmative commands.

'Imperative' is used for second person singular and plural, 'Subjunctive' for all other cases. If present, the 'block of object pronouns' is postposed after the verb.

    Examples: Quest. 1 Quest. 2 Quest. 3 Quest. 4 Quest. 5 Quest. 6 Quest. 7 Quest. 8 Quest. 9 Quest. 10

    2) The use of verbs and/or object pronouns for negative commands.

'Subjunctive' is used for all persons. If present, the 'block of object pronouns' is in its normal position before the verb.

    Examples: Quest. 2 Quest. 3 Quest. 6 Quest. 7 Quest. 9 Quest. 10

    3) The attachment of object pronouns and/or euphonic adjustments.

    Examples: Quest. 1 Quest. 3 Quest. 4 Quest. 5 Quest. 6 Quest. 7 Quest. 8 Quest. 9 Quest. 10
