I teach International Relations in the Political Science Department at Columbia University, and am a member of the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies.
My research focuses on the durability of peace in the aftermath of both civil and interstate wars, long-term historical trends in war termination, democratization after civil wars, and the effects of terrorism in civil wars.
My full name is Virginia Page Fortna -- I go by my middle name.
I live in New York City and Portland, OR with my husband, Pete Beeman; our daughters, Rosie and Linden; and our dog, Tosca.
