Columbia receives National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) data on CD-ROM from two sources: the NCHS Data Dissemination Program and the U.S. Government's Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP).
For products received through the FDLP, data is formatted for use with the NCHS data extraction software called SETS (Statistical Export and Tabulation System). SETS allows you to select variables and subset cases, will write out a codebook detailing only the variables selected, and will output the data with SAS or SPSS programs. The SETS software accompanies the data on each disc and is installed on a workstation in EDS . For more information about SETS refer to: The data on CD-ROMs received directly from NCHS are in ASCII format making it accessible to most software and hardware platforms. The ASCII format has been used to create archival versions of key studies.
