For early years (1991 and 1961) links are provided to external sources and to IndiaStat (a subscription site available to Columbia users). IndiaStat has tables for selected topics starting with the 1961 census. Note that, as of January 2008, the 2001 tables generated in the Demographics section of the IndiaStat are provisional counts not the final counts. Final count numbers for 2001 are available via the link to the India Census website, and to data tables stored locally and formatted for the needs of Columbia users. At both locations data is reported for towns, subdistricts, districts, and states.
