/*SHORT TITLE: Notes on data files */

The files MC92A4.DBF and SC92A1.DBF are the original files data for the
1992 Manufacturing sector and Service Sector . These are only two of the
many data files from both the 1992 and 1987 Economic Census that are stored
on the CD-ROM.

The MC92A4.DBF and SC92A1.DBF do not describe industry using the standard
SIC code but use a field called SICKEY. The relationship between SIC Code
and SICKEY is documented in the file SICKEY. This file also contains
descriptors of varying length for SIC code reporting levels.

The systems files (.dta, .por, .sav) were created by merging information
from SICKEY on to the data contained in files MC92A4.DBF and SC92A1.DBF.

These system files contain data at all geographic levels of reporting.
Industry definitions are avaiable for both SICKEY and the standard SIC
codes and definitions. (Note for confidentiality purposes data is not
always available at the level detail provided by all four digits of SIC
code.)

The data files:
   mc92a4.dta
   mc92a4.por
   mc92a4.sav
   sc92a1.dta
   sc92a1.por
   sc92a1.sav

contain all the data from the original .dbf file, plus SIC code information
from the SICKEY.dbf file merged on to each record.
