CUIT (Columbia University Information Technology)
provides email service to the Columbia University community of
students, faculty and staff. The service includes automatic backups of
mail stored on our servers, support for secure protocols for sending
and retrieving mail, and extensive spam-filtering.
CUIT runs two mail systems: the free Cyrus system for all
faculty, staff, and students, and a fee-based Microsoft
Exchange mail system for use mainly by faculty and staff.
CYRUS
The Cyrus Mail system stores mailboxes and provides for access using
internet standards IMAP and POP. Users can access their mail with
almost any mail program, including CubMail (web-based), Outlook,
Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Pine. Use your UNI and password to access
your Cyrus email.
MICROSOFT EXCHANGE
A Microsoft Exchange email account is provided as part of the Central
LAN service. You can manage your email with Microsoft Outlook,
Entourage, or Web Outlook, maintain your calendar, schedule meetings
with other Outlook users, view the calendars of others, maintain a
task list, assign task list items to others, maintain a contacts list,
and share data with others. You will use a secure Exchange account ID
and password to access your Exchange email.
