Instructor's Electronic Podium
Altschul Auditorium is a large lecture room with seating for 402 students and can handle most multimedia applications. The instructor's equipment is enclosed in a
stationary wood cabinet.
The equipment available to the instructor includes a ceiling-mounted BarcoGraphics Data projector,
which can accept RGB and video inputs. Video is displayed on a screen that descends automatically
when a source is selected on the Crestron touch panel. The podium contains the various electronic
resources available to the instructor. These include a Dell Optiplex PC, VCR, document camera, and DVD player. The Dell Optiplex has built-in CD-ROM and zip drives and an Ethernet network connection for digital
presentations. Slide projectors are available in the control room located in the rear of the auditorium.
A room customized Crestron touchpanel controls the multimedia experience including,
the audio visual equipment, slide projectors, and the
physical room environment (lights and
speech/program volume).
The system utilizes an audio mixer and A/V receiver that powers speakers located at the front,
middle and ceiling of the classroom. The mixer is used to provide two methods of voice amplification:
a wireless microphone system is housed within the electronic podium, and a wired microphone is
mounted on the standard classroom podium.
