I changed my password and now I can't read my email using my usual email program.
It's very likely that your password is stored in your Email program
and you need to change it to the new one there as well. You can confirm this by logging in to CubMail to ensure your password was changed to what you thought you changed it to. If you can login into CubMail, you know your password. Failing to login to your email using a software program such as Thunderbird means you have stored your old password in your Email program.
Below are instructions for removing saved passwords from various email programs:
Netscape 7+
- In Netscape, from the Tools menu, choose Password Manager -> Manage Stored Passwords.
- Find the line that says "imap://UNI@imap.columbia.edu" (where UNI is your UNI), click on it, and then click Remove
- Find the line that says "smtp://UNI@send.columbia.edu", click on it, and then click Remove
- Click the Close button.
- Exit Netscape, and then restart it.
Outlook Express
- In Outlook Express, from the Tools menu, choose Email Accounts.
- Click the Mail tab.
- Highlight the Columbia mail account (probably "imap.columbia.edu").
- Click the Properties button on the right.

- Uncheck "Remember password", and click OK.
- Click Close, and then exit and restart Outlook Express
Apple Mail

- Delete the option "Remember Password".
- Exit Apple Mail and restart it.
