What are the drives on Central used for?

Adminstrators who sign up for service on Central will have access to more file space such as the G:, H: and P: drives.

G:\users Location of server files. Click on My Computer The G:\users drive is a personal folder viewed only by the users.

H:\My Department Name. The H:\groups (grp1 or grp2) drive will contain a shared folder for the customer's entire department. Everybody in the department will see this information

P:\Software. This drive contains the applications which are installed from the server. This includes free software (including Putty, WinSCP, etc) as well as licensed or otherwise restricted applications. Client Services can help customers re-install new software as needed.

To effectively manage Central's resources, it is necessary to limit the disk space available to any one user. Therefore, you are provided with 500 MB of storage in your personal user directory (G drive). Each group directory (H drive) is initially restricted to 1 GB. More space can be made available (for an additional fee) by contacting the Client Service Center at 854-1919.

Cleaning Up Your Files

If you are approaching the space limit of your personal directory, please take a minute to clean up. List your files and delete those that you no longer need. Pay special attention to files with .bak and .tmp extensions. These are automatically created by applications as a precaution against data loss and can be deleted if you need the space.
