Invitation

The FIRST robotics competition, which involves hundreds of metropolitan area high school students, will be coming again to Columbia on Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd. We invite you and your family to be our guest for fast-paced competition with remote-controlled robots.

The event begins at 10 am Friday, March 22nd at Levien Gymnasium (enter at Broadway and 119th Street). You will watch robots vie to grasp balls ranging from small to huge, spin 360 degrees and drop them through an eight-foot hoop. Last year over 5,000 attended, and we anticipate an even greater turnout this year.

FIRST is a national non-profit organization created by Dean Kamen and dedicated to improving the technological literacy of high school students. Our mission as an Engineering school is to foster excellence and achievement in technological and scientific education and we are happy to extend to FIRST the support and facilities of our School and University. Some of our faculty and students have a vested interest in the outcome since, for the third year, they have mentored a competing team from Morris High School in the Bronx.

For more information about FIRST, please see the FIRST Web site.

We hope you will join us again for this exciting and energetic competition.
