VLC Media Player
You must be connected to a high-bandwidth-multicast-enabled network to use VLC Media Player to view a high-quality MPEG-2 multicast. These networks are typically found at Internet2-connected research and education institutions in the US and related research and education networks in other countries.
Step 1. Download and
install VLC Media Player. (Mac users: download here.)
Step 2. Run VLC.
Step 3. Configure VLC.
Windows:
- Select Open Network from the Media menu.
- Change the protocol to UDP. In the Address box
enter 233.0.14.137 and set the port to 4000.
- Click Play and the broadcast will start.
Macintosh:
- Select Open Network from the File menu and click
the Open RTP/UDP Stream button.
- Select UDP as the protocol and Multicast as the
mode. Enter 233.0.14.137 for the IP Address and 4000
for the Port.
- Click Open and then Open again and the broadcast
will start.
Step 4. Macintosh only. To save your settings, select Save
Playlist from the File menu, give it a name, and change the
format to XML Shareable Playlist Format (XSPF). You will be
able to recall the video stream by double-clicking on this saved
playlist.
