Latest Version of CourseWorks Available

AcIS has announced the latest version of CourseWorks as part of an ongoing effort to enhance CourseWorks for the Columbia University community.

Academic Information Systems (AcIS), the Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL), the Center for Academic Information Technology (CAIT) at the Health Sciences campus, and the Libraries have made enhancements based on feedback from faculty and students.

Some of the key features now available are:

  • Easier for instructors to provide guest access to the content in their CourseWorks sites.
  • Instructors can copy course content to and from any of their CourseWorks sites.
  • Improved Survey and Grade Book features.
  • Schools/academic departments now have more administrative control and can view/edit their department courses.

You can see the complete list of new features online.

What is CourseWorks?

CourseWorks provides a standardized interface for creating course web sites and for students and faculty to centrally manage course content online.

For faculty, CourseWorks@Columbia will help make their classes gain ground by enabling them to publish course information and content, communicate with students via bulletin boards and e-mail lists, maintain digital assets (text, slides, video and audio), deliver and receive files (such as readings and assignments), manage group projects and maintain an archive of past courses with ease.

For students, CourseWorks@Columbia serves as a single point of entry for all of their course information and content, including links to digital library reserve materials, a calendar they can use to track assignments and deadlines, bulletin boards and groups for which they are registered, and announcements from their instructors.
