SPSS is a computer program used for statistical analysis. (Between 2009 and 2010 the premier software for SPSS was called PASW [Predictive Analytics SoftWare]. As of January 2010, it became "SPSS: An IBM Company.")

SAS is an integrated system of software products - provided by SAS Institute, Inc. - that enables programmers to perform data entry, data management, statistical analysis, forecasting, quality improvement analysis, project management tasks, data warehousing and decision support.

SAS and SPSS licenses, under Columbia's discounted pricing agreement with SAS Institute and SPSS Inc., are available only to Columbia University faculty and staff.

Mathematica is a computational software program used in scientific, engineering, and mathematical fields, as well as other areas of technical computing. It is provided by Wolfram Research.

Mathematica licenses, under Columbia's discounted pricing agreement with Wolfram, are generally available only to Columbia University faculty and staff, and installation is limited to machines owned by the University.

Clients purchasing SPSS, SAS and Mathematica are responsible for the installation and correct use of the product, as well as understanding hardware and operating system requirements.

Where necessary, CUIT will act as a liaison with the vendor should an issue arise; CUIT support is also available to answer installation questions. For issues where you're having trouble getting the help you need from the vendor, please email askcuit@columbia.edu with details and a CUIT liaison will follow up with you.

Individual License orders/Renewals: For quantities of 1 to 19, please go to the University Bookstore at Lerner Hall. All sales are final. Returns or refunds will NOT be accepted by the Bookstore or CUIT.

PLEASE NOTE:

One license is the equivalent of either one computer (laptop, desktop) or a single Unix processor.
The price is fixed and cannot be pro-rated. The software will not run after the license expires. To get the best possible results and avoid any risk of downtime, please make sure to purchase a renewal at least one month before your license expires.

Licenses are valid for a 1-year period. The site licensing agreement dates vary as follows:

SPSS: July 1 through June 30, plus a 30-day grace period
SAS: September 1 through August 31, plus a 90-day grace period
Mathematica: November 1 through October 31, plus a 30-day grace period
