Microsoft Campus License Agreement
Columbia University maintains a license agreement with Microsoft Corp. to distribute several Microsoft products and product upgrades to specific campus groups and organizations. These products can be installed on all systems used for your Columbia-related work.
If you need help with this software after installing it on a home
computer, please get support from a third-party service provider in
your local area. One option is a company called Techs in a
Sec, with whom Columbia has arranged a discount.
A University affiliate's ability to successfully download Microsoft products is determined by how your school or organization chose to participate in the University's contract with Microsoft. For example, many schools opted not to include students or Student Officers (TA's) under the agreement. Some organizations opted not to participate at all.
University Affiliates NOT Covered
UNDERGRADUATES: Undergraduate students are NOT covered under the Microsoft Campus License Agreement, and cannot download Microsoft products.
GRADUATES: Graduate and professional school students are NOT covered, with the exceptions of Business School, SIPA and CUMC students.
ALUMNI: Alumni - including recent graduates - are NOT covered, even if they previously were.
EMPLOYEES: Casuals, consultants, contractors and temporary staff are not covered.
FACULTY/INSTRUCTORS: Student officers, TA's and visiting scholars are NOT covered.
RETIREES: This service is not available to either Faculty or Staff retirees.
University Affiliates Covered
GRADUATES: Columbia Business School, SIPA and Columbia University Medical Center students only
EMPLOYEES: University administrative staff (Officers and Support Staff), Libraries only
FACULTY/INSTRUCTORS: Full-time Officers of Instruction and Officers of Research only
If you feel you should be able to download Microsoft products, CUIT can confirm your current role as defined by your department in campus identity systems, but cannot act on direct requests to change it. CUIT has no means to validate such requests and cannot second-guess a departmental role assignation. Any mistakes in your indicated role must be corrected at the departmental level through your departmental administrator, department head or direct manager. Once a correction (this may take time) by your department is completed, there may be additional administrative delays of up to 3 days before access to Microsoft product downloads is made available. This process does not require CUIT intervention.
Employees: Click your affiliation link below to see which additional Microsoft applications may be available to you for installation on all systems you use for your Columbia-related work.
