Symantec AntiVirus

Symantec AntiVirus is a virus and spyware scanning program developed by Symantec Corporation. CUIT has purchased a site license for Symantec AntiVirus. If you are a Columbia University, Barnard, or UTS faculty, staff or student, you can download and install Symantec AntiVirus. You can also acquire a CD in 102 Philosophy for $10.

Columbia departments may be interested in the site-license for the LAN/Server Corporate edition.

Download and Installation
(Current faculty, staff, and students of Columbia University, Barnard, or UTS are eligible to download. Teachers College affiliates must download antivirus software from Teachers College Computing.)

  1. Download the installer (required UNI login):
     v11 for Windows XP, Vista (70MB)
     v11 for 64-bit versions of Windows (74MB)
     v10.1.6 for Windows 2000 (31MB)
    To keep your copy of Symantec AntiVirus up to date, please download and install the 10.1.6.6010 patch.

     v10 for Mac OS 10.3.x - 10.5.x (26 MB)
    If you are using Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), you may need to update LiveUpdate after installing this product.

     v9 for Mac OS 10.1.5 - 10.2.x (44 MB)
  2. Save the installer to your hard drive, and make a note of the folder that you saved it in.
  3. Run the installer. Restart your computer.
  4. Configure Symantec AntiVirus for Windows using these instructions.
Upgrading from a Previous Version
  • To upgrade, follow the download and installation instructions above.
