Reading Newsgroups
Note: You can only use Columbia's news server
if you are directly connected to the Columbia network or dialed in to
Columbia's modem pool. If you connect to the Internet using a
commercial ISP, you must use the ISP's news server.
- Select Mail & Newsgroups from Netscape's Window menu.

- Click Create a new account.

- The New Account Setup Wizard will appear. Click
Newsgroup account and click Next.

- Fill in your name and email address on the Identity
screen. Click Next.

- Fill in news.columbia.edu for the Newsgroup Server on the
Server Information screen, and click Next.

- You can enter a name of your choice on the Account Name
screen. In the example, we have left it as the server name,
news.columbia.edu. Click Next.

- The newsgroup account verification screen will appear. Click
Finish if all the information is correct, or Back if you
need to go back and correct anything.

- You will now see your newsgroup account in the account list. In
the example it appears as news.columbia.edu, the name we
assigned the newsgroup account. Yours will appear with whatever name
you assigned.
