Using PestPatrol: The Basics

Performing a Scan
Access PestPatrol from your Start -> Programs -> Computer Associates -> eTrust -> PestPatrol menu selection, or from the desktop icon if you have one.
- From the PestPatrol Welcome screen, click on Scan and Standard Scan under the Scan Options list. This will scan all the directories as displayed on the right side of the Scan window. If you wish to select which drives get scanned, you can chose to select Custom Scan.

- Click on the Scan Now button to do an immediate scan. PestPatrol will scan all the locations as displayed.
- To schedule a scan (recommended), click the Schedule Scan button and enter the times, and the action desired when a pest is detected. We recommend that you Quarantine the pest.

- You can run the scan as the currently logged in Windows user or select the username.
- Click Schedule New Scan. You'll see the scheduled scan displayed on the right hand side of your Schedule window.

Using Automatic Updates
PestPatrol regularly needs to get updates in order to correctly identify new threats. You should configure PestPatrol to Install Updates Automatically.
You will be notified when an Update is made available

You should apply the updates. You may be asked to restart your computer.

Managing PestPatrol
You can examine PestPatrol's Logs and Quarantined Pests by going to Advanced Settings. You can also specify exclusion settings which are used to ignore both specific pests and specific folders on your computer.
- Click on the Quarantined Pests to get a display of all the pests found on the scan which were Quarantined. If you want more information about a specific pest, you should use Computer Associates' Spyware Encyclopedia to get more information. Click Select/Deselect All to select all entries and then Delete to remove the pests from Quarantine.
- You may want to limit the size of the PestPatrol log report saved to your pc by examining the log and selecting limit size of log
