Installation Tips

If you have problems installing PestPatrol, you should review these possible solutions:
  • Make sure you have removed all previously installed spyware software. Ocassionally, an "un-install" does not remove all components, and you may have to uninstall the software manually.
  • You must be logged in to Windows NT, 2000 or XP as an Administrator or with Administrator permissions before you can complete the installation.

Other Common Issues

Automatic Updates are Unavailable

  • Make sure your Firewall is properly configured to allow PestPatrol internet access.
  • You will not be able to run Automatic Updates unless you have Administrator permissions. If your work group has been setup to NOT have Administrator privileges, your System Administrator can schedule Automatic Updates to run as Administrator. You should make this request from your System Administrator.

Programs are unavailable after scanning

Some programs are identified as security threats by PestPatrol. VNC, for example, may be quarantined when you do a scan. You should set exclusions for the software you need by going to Advanced Settings and Manage Exclusions. Select the directory or files you wish to exclude from the PestPatrol scan.

Power problems on Laptops

If you experience a battery drain on your laptop after installing PestPatrol, you should reconfigure your PestPatrol Active Protection to unselect Scan for and delete spyware cookies. Having this setting selected on a laptop may contribute to this.
