Columbia's Central UNIX Hosts
The Systems Group of AcIS provides central UNIX hosts which support
campus email, Internet publishing, University-wide authentication, and
many other services. We currently support over 60,000 members of the
University community with over 60 servers. These servers run from
older Ultra 1's to more recent machines like big Enterprise 4500s and
little Netra T1s.
These pages do not provide an overview of cunix, but rather a somewhat
closer look at the machines that make up the cluster and its various
services.
The cunix system consists of many small machines, each with a specific
task. Each task is done by more than one host, to minimize disruption
if one host is down. The hosts are thus clustered by task.
Looking closer, the cunix cluster consists of various different
machines from different vendors running a variety of software.
In 2002 we are starting to move CUNIX to the newer version 8 of the
Solaris operating system.
