102 D. H. Lawrence 1885-1930
Sea and Sardinia
Typescript with autograph corrections, 305 p., ca. March 23, 1921
Written after a ten day trip to Sardinia with his wife, the volume of travel sketches has been described as one of Lawrence's outstanding prose achievements. The work was published by Thomas Seltzer in New York on December 12, 1921, the fifth work that Seltzer published that year by the author. The manuscript is part of a large collection of letters, manuscripts and first editions formed by the late Dr. Alfred M. Hellman, including the typescript of The Boy in the Bush, with corrections in Lawrence's hand, and the holograph of the essay "The Future of the Novel."
Gift of Clarisse B. Hellman
