118 Rockwell Kent 1882-1971
Painting for Palisades fabric design
Tempera, 26 x 28 inches, 1950
Although best known for his book illustrations, Kent created designs for chinaware, furniture, jewelry, record jackets, tiles, tombstones, wrapping paper and many other utilitarian as well as decorative objects. Nine drapery patterns, including Deer Season, Waves of Grain, Harvest Time and Pine Tree, were created by the artist. This unpublished design, meant to alternate in a drop repeat pattern, demonstrates the success with which Kent was able to preserve his vision for a commercial product.
