119 Herman Wouk 1915-
The Caine Mutiny
Manuscript, 2,119 p., [1956]
Acclaimed by book reviewers, Herman Wouk's best-selling novel depicting mutiny aboard a United States naval destroyer during World War II won the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1952. Although not autobiographical, the authentic and detailed story reflects the author's own experience in the navy during the war, and Wouk's use of the theme of rebellion against authority is one that is found in other novels, such as Marjorie Morningstar. This manuscript is part of an extensive file of the novelist's papers, which also contains his working notes, correspondence, memorabilia, and manuscripts and typescripts of his novels, short stories and plays.
