| Before going to boarding school at Groton at the age of fourteen, Roosevelt spent his summer vacation bicycling through Germany with his tutor, Arthur Dumper. They lived modestly on black bread and cheese and slept in country inns and in peasant cottages until they met Roosevelt's parents at Bad Nauheim. This charming letter was written by the future President from the Black Forest. It recounts some of his activities, including touring, snapping photographs, bicycling, hiking and trout fishing. The letter is signed, "With a great deal of love/ I am/ your affectionate grandson/ Franklin D. Roosevelt. | |
