As a member of the Columbia community, you have access to the
Internet and can publish on the World Wide Web, and we hope
that you will take advantage of this opportunity. Regardless
of what you publish—a personal Web site, a site for a
course you're teaching, or a site for your
department—please remember that you are
responsible for what you publish on the Web. Please read and
understand the Columbia copyright policy before you
begin.
Personal Web Sites. You can create your own personal Web pages.
The files will be stored in the space on your CUNIX account. In order
to do this, you need to be familiar with the basics of UNIX and HTML
(the language used to create Web pages), or use a special program
designed to create Web pages (e.g. Dreamweaver).
Course Web Sites. If you want to create a Web site for a course
you're teaching, you can do it yourself, or you may take advantage of
the services offered by the
Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning. If you're
going to create the site yourself, please see FAQ 447
to learn how to request space.
Departmental/Organizational Web Sites. If you want to create a
Web site for your department or organization, you can do it yourself,
or you may take advantage of the services offered by the CUIT Interactive
Services team. This is a professional group offering competitive
fee-based Web site design, development, and maintenance services to
the entire University. If you're going to create a site for your
department or organization yourself, please see FAQ 447
to learn how to request space.
