Our workshops for faculty and instructors provide an overview of
technologies that enhance teaching and learning. Following are
descriptions of the workshops we are currently offering. You can enroll
for a session below. Instructors who wish to start independently can

CourseWorks I: An Introduction
Welcome to CourseWorks, Columbia University’s course management system. This session is for individuals who plan to use CourseWorks for the first time, or who want to review every day functions such as logging in, updating your course’s introduction page, and enabling or disabling sections of the site. We will also discuss setting up your course syllabus during this workshop.

CourseWorks II: More Features
This hands-on workshop takes your use of CourseWorks a step farther. Our educational technologists will teach you how to use other features of CW such as uploading files, creating discussion boards, posting assignments, and connecting library resources of your choosing. This workshop will also demonstrate course migration across semesters.

CourseWorks II: Evaluation Tools
This workshop delves deeper into using CourseWorks as an evaluation tool. Educational technologists will help you use the Test & Quiz section to deliver a survey, quiz, or test. This workshop will also briefly cover using discussion boards.
Learn how to create surveys in CourseWorks that solicit valuable feedback from your students. In this session we will cover how to create a survey using the Test & Quiz section in CourseWorks and different techniques for creating an effective survey.
Using Digital Resources for Teaching: An Overview
Our educational technologists will provide you with a general overview on how teaching can be enhance with new media. We will provide examples of how you can use audio, video, and images in the classroom and on your course Web site.

Teaching with Audio and Video
Note: Participants of this workshop must have a basic knowledge of CourseWorks
In this hands-on workshop, our educational technologists will teach you how to use audio and video clips in classroom presentations and on your course Web site. You will learn how to find, digitize, and revise audio, video, and image sources for your course needs. We encourage you to bring your own audio and video items to this session.

Teaching with Digital Text and Images
Note: Participants of this workshop must have a basic knowledge of CourseWorks
This workshop focuses on using digital text and images in your teaching and on your course Web site. Please bring any text or image materials you need assistance with to this session. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to digitize and revise/modify text and images for your course needs.

Discovering Collaboration Tools
Note: Participants of this workshop must have a basic knowledge of CourseWorks
This workshop will explore using discussion boards, blogs, and wikis to create an effective collaborative work environment for your students. You will learn to compare discussion boards, blogs, and wikis to achieve the best form of interaction and balance to meet your learning/teaching objectives. Our educational technologists will walk you through the steps and help you experiment with each tool. You will leave with resources to build on the knowledge you gained during this session. (Note to ETs: include information on how to feed this media into CW.)
