2016

 

March:

  • Attend the Grad Fair taking place March 8 - 10 at the Columbia University Morningside Campus Bookstore and March 11 at the Medical Center Bookstore.
  • Register for University Commencement and to request guest tickets. Registration will open after Spring Break.
  • Are you a graduating student? Can you sing? Then audition to sing the National Anthem at University Commencement! We’re seeking graduating performers, including both soloists and ensembles, to audition for the chance to sing the National Anthem at this year’s Commencement ceremony. Details are as follows:
    • Round 1: Video submissions are required. Please send your video to commencement@columbia.edu along with your name(s), email, phone number, and school, with the subject line “National Anthem for 2016 Commencement” before Wednesday, March 24, for a chance to be called back for Round 2.
    • Round 2: The Commencement Office will be conducting callbacks throughout the month of March. If applicable, we will request that you come in for an in-person audition for either Thursday, March 24 or Friday, March 25.
    • Final Round: Results on the final National Anthem singer will be confirmed by the end of April.
 

April:

  • Connect with the Columbia Alumni Association about the great benefits after graduation
  • Download the Commencement App to your mobile device
  • Meet deadline to place your order for Academic Regalia without a late fee
  • Stay updated on everything to do with Commencement

 

May:

  • Campus is very busy on Commencement Day. Don’t leave anything till the morning of: get your regalia in advance, know where to line up with your school, give your guests their tickets.
  • Good luck on your final exams!

Commencement Week 2016

  May 15-19: School Ceremonies and Baccalaureate
 

May 18 at 10:15 a.m.: University Commencement

  • Assemble by 9:00 a.m. with your school on upper campus, using one of the designated entrances. Do not attempt to use a lower campus entry point.
  • Wear your cap and gown, and carry University ID.
  • If you no longer hold a University ID, bring a photo ID and your Commencement registration confirmation or a letter from your school on University stationery.
  • Guests must have tickets to access campus. Please be sure to distribute tickets in advance of the event.
  • Make a plan of how you will meet up with your guests post-ceremony.
  • The ceremony is outdoors and will be held rain or shine: dress accordingly.
 

After May 19:
Diplomas will be mailed directly to students at the DP address on file with SSOL. If there is no DP address through SSOL, the diploma will not be sent, and the student will need to make retrieval arrangements with the Office of the University Registrar. Please contact diplomas@columbia.edu with any additional questions about diplomas.
