GENERAL INFORMATION

Getting to campus anytime throughout Commencement Week might be quite challenging, especially on Commencement Day. We suggest planning out your travel to and from the Morningside Campus in advance. Information on how to get to campus (either by car, public transportation, or air) can be found on the university's Visitor Information website.

For those planning to drive or park near campus during Commencement Week, please note that many streets surrounding Morningside Campus will be closed (to both traffic and parking) by the NYPD.

If you are driving to campus with a guest requiring assistance, there are gates designated for guests with disabilities, those with limited mobility, and the elderly on Amsterdam Avenue. Please adjust your travel plans accordingly to arrive at this location rather than Broadway. Learn more about Disability Services on Commencement Day in the tab at the top of the page.

In general, we recommend relying upon New York City's excellent public transportation whenever possible. Please note, the 116th St subway station is not wheelchair accessible. The nearest accessible subway station is 96th Street (1, 2, 3 Trains). For those visitors who wish to drive, here is a list of conveniently located private parking garages near the Columbia University campus in Morningside Heights. There is no on-campus parking. Because of the large number of visitors for Commencement and the space limits of these garages, allow plenty of time to find parking. Please note that this list of garages is intended for your reference only, and is not a recommendation by the University.

Please note: If you arrive early in the week and are able to find street parking in the days before Commencement, take careful note of postings indicating upcoming parking restrictions. Many streets surrounding campus are blocked off and kept clear starting at midnight on May 17. Cars parked in a restricted area are at risk of being towed.
