Harlem Hospital Center offers a rich and comprehensive Fellowship training program in Infectious Diseases. The program's core curriculum is designed to prepare the trainees for certification by the American Board of Infectious Diseases and an independent clinical and/or academic career. The Division of Infectious Diseases collaborates closely with the Department of Pathology /Microbiology Laboratory, the Department of Pharmacy/Antibiotic Control Program, and the Hospital Infection Control Program.

- Infectious Diseases / HIV Continuity Clinic
- Women's health sessions at the Infectious Diseases Clinic
- Dermatology session at the Infectious Diseases Clinic
- Tuberculosis management through inpatient consultation and clinic sessions at the Charles P. Felton National Tuberculosis Center
- Structured educational opportunities e.g. case conferences, journal club, research conferences etc.
- Clinical research
Didactic Infectious Diseases Conference – Wednesday
The Division of Infectious Diseases conducts a weekly subspecialty conference at Harlem Hospital. The topic of each conference is chosen by the trainee and attending physician on the consult service. Case presentations are prepared and presented by the trainee. Contributions are sought from other services to ensure a multidisciplinary nature of the conference. These include members from the Microbiology laboratory, the Radiology Department and other specialties.
Journal Club – Friday
Journal club is held weekly. The trainee presents and critically reviews recent articles from the literature. This forum provides the opportunity for the trainees to gain experience in the assessment of the literature as well as in the design and conduct of research.
Combined Conference at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center
The Division of Infectious Diseases participates at combined twice-weekly Infectious Disease conference at New York - Presbyterian Hospital. These conferences include case presentations, basic science, research and didactic sessions. The fellows are required to present at these conferences.
Monthly mortality/morbidity conference
The division is actively involved in the monthly mortality and morbidity conference conducted by the Department of Internal Medicine.
Monthly Infectious Diseases Grand Rounds
ID Grand Rounds are held once a month at Harlem Hospital, which is organized by the division. Distinguished speakers are invited to present at this conference on a wide range of infectious disease topics.
Weekly Intercity Conference – Monday evening
The division participates in the weekly Intercity Infectious Disease conference. Hospitals in the city take turn in hosting the event. Several times during the year this conference is hosted by the division, at which the trainees present and discuss the most interesting and challenging cases seen at Harlem Hospital.
Research Conference
Research conference is held regularly, where all studies conducted by the division are discussed including the trainees’ projects. All members of the research team, including the research nurses and data managers, attend this conference.
Intercity TB Rounds
The division participates in the citywide TB rounds that rotate among hospitals in New York City. The Infectious Diseases division hosts these rounds once a year. The trainees present and discuss the most interesting and challenging cases of tuberculosis at Harlem Hospital.
