The funds from the charity raffle we will be having during the show will go to support a new program. In collaboration with the Asian Professional Extension, Inc. (APEX), AAA is helping start an after school program at a public school for Asian American children in the 5th grade. The pilot program is currently being developed, and it is scheduled to run in January 2004. The preliminary outline for the program focuses on extracurricular workshops/activities and one-on-one mentoring, and it will run once per week or once every other week in a public school in Chinatown. If you are interested in organizing or volunteering, please contact Emily at ebt2001@columbia.edu

APEX, founded in 1992, is a New York City non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the personal and educational development of underprivileged, urban Asian American youth through long lasting relationships with Asian American role models. APEX is the only organization of its size and scope offering one-to-one mentoring for Asian American youth. APEX currently has an active membership of over 420 adults and students and has contributed to the personal development of nearly a thousand young people. In addition to its mentoring program, APEX also runs an SAT/college prep program and various test preparation programs. For more information, visit their website at http://www.apex-ny.org.
