What is Rush?
Rush stirs the fraternity into action at the beginning of each semester. We toss footballs at midnight, savor barbecued treats, watch movies or a game on the big screen, truck out to the beach, and best of all, we invite everybody to join us! See, rush is our fraternity's opportunity to meet new students (or older students with budding interest in fraternity life), and their opportunity to meet us. Students who attend various rush events are those that are interested in getting to know the brothers of AEPi. It is a student's chance to decide if they enjoy spending time with the brotherhood and if they would accept a bid, a formal offer to begin learning about and becoming a member in the fraternity, from us. Likewise, the brothers attend rush to meet people who are interested in joining the fraternity and to judge who they would like to offer bids to, which men we believe can add to the legacy that is AEPi. Rushing a fraternity is not an obligation to join, but just an opportunity for you to come out and have a good time. Rush concludes with AEPi's offers of bids to various students, the first step on the road to brotherhood. Are you interested in becoming part of this legacy? If so then please fill out the sign-up form.
Who Attends Rush?
The easy answer: Anybody who loves to have fun.
The more complete answer: There are two types of people that attend our
rush events. Everyone is invited to join us in our festivities, and many
people come just to have fun. There is also the group of people
interested in learning about life with AEPi; those people make an extra
effort to attend rush events and to spend time talking with brothers.
Oftentimes a person will not initially have the intention of rushing a
fraternity but will enjoy the events so much that their interest begins
to grow. So there is no need to attend a rush event with the intention
of eventually receiving a bid, but be forewarned: our brotherhood is
temptingly fun.
Why Rush?
Many individuals come to campus with pre-conceived notions of
what Greek life is like. Some people will say that they definitely
want to join a fraternity, while others are sure that they are not
going to join. Despite these notions, fraternities have a lot to
offer that many don't even realize. Being in a fraternity provides
opportunities for social events, philanthropy opportunities, sports
teams, and more.
Being in a fraternity also provides you with a community within the
larger community. You will have a connection with your brothers, and
have opportunities to meet people from the other fraternities and
sororities on campus. You have the potential to form lifelong
friendships, and memories. You are also immediately put in contact
with a network of alumni, giving you access to all sorts of
opportunities in the business world.
Being in a fraternity may also give you a step up for the future.
Whether it is the leadership experience you gain, or the
connections made for the future, there are Greeks in prominent
positions in politics, entertainment, business, sports, and more.
Here are just a few facts about fraternity men:
- 71% of those listed in "Who's Who in America " belong to a fraternity.
- Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity men.
- 85% of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
- 40 of 47 U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were fraternity men.
- 76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity.
- Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 have been members of a fraternity.
- 2% of the male population in America is fraternity men.
- Statistics show that fraternity members have a higher rate of graduation from college than do their non-member counterparts.
Why Rush Alpha Epsilon Pi?
The Mission Statement of Alpha Epsilon Pi states “Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded to provide opportunities for the Jewish college man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience. We have maintained the integrity of our purpose by strengthening our ties to the Jewish community and serving as a link between high school and career.”
Alpha Epsilon Pi is NOT a religious organization, but rather a social organization that connects thousands of Jewish men across the country. AEPi is the only predominantly Jewish fraternity that has maintained its ties to the Jewish Community. AEPi runs trips to Israel, promotes Jewish charities, and holds ties with organizations ranging from Hillel to March of the Living.
Joining AEPi gives a connection with Jewish college students across America. We have over 130 chapters, totaling over 6,000 members. While each chapter is certainly different, there is a common purpose of building Jewish leaders.
Why Rush Our Chapter?
Brotherhood
AEPi has a lot to offer each of its members. The first and foremost reason to join is the exceptional brotherhood that will become a cornerstone of your life. In AEPi you will make loyal friends with whom you will share your college experience and form memories that will last a lifetime. We are a diverse group of men, yet we are all drawn together by similar experiences and values, such as honor, loyalty, and integrity. These similarities along with the multitude of college experiences that we will share together, such as parties, philanthropies, athletics, etc, allow us to form lifelong bonds that we call Brotherhood.
Academics
In Alpha Epsilon Pi, we take our education VERY seriously. We are consistently ranked among the top of Greek organizations in GPA. By joining this fraternity, you have the advantage of knowing someone in almost every major. As friends and brothers, these people will be glad to both help you study and give you advice on how to achieve your academic goals. At no time will anyone be asked to sacrifice their grades for any chapter event, as your education is the #1 priority. All brothers of our chapter have to adhere to our scholarship guidelines and minimum GPA standards. Also, many of our brothers continue onto graduate, law and medical schools.
Social
Alpha Epsilon Pi is a social organization. We provide a healthy outlet in which students can enjoy college while still getting excellent grades. While our social events never interfere with our educations, we always have a good time. We throw at least two big parties a semester, have mixers with sororities, hold an annual semi-formal and formal , and consistently have house parties and other great events. AEPi parties always generate a buzz around campus and usually include a theme. Some of our recent popular theme parties included a murder mystery cocktail party and a Cinco de Mayo fiesta.
Networking
Joining a fraternity is a great advantage for your future. You will meet a diverse group of friends who are interested in the same career fields as you are. Older members can help you choose which classes to take, offer advice on graduate schools and admissions tests, and help you in the graduate school application process. Also, there are many AEPi alumni (graduated brothers) who already have successful careers in a wide variety of fields. These alumni enjoy helping out fellow brothers and a break like this could make a huge difference in your future.
Leadership
A primary goal of Alpha Epsilon Pi is to turn our young men into leaders. The fraternity is a structured organization with many positions that require responsibility and leadership. Each brother that joins AEPi has been chosen with the hopes that they may contribute to the dominance and growth of the organization. They will find many opportunities to become leaders, take on responsibility, and socialize with members of other Greek organizations. There are also many leadership opportunities beyond AEPi which our brothers take full advantage of. In recent years our brothers have held such top positions as President of Hillel and Managing Director of Inside New York. The brothers of AEPi have continuously held executive positions in Student Government, Model Congress, Columbia Television and various written publications, to list a few.
