Addiction Illness : Medical Solutions began in 1986 when, in light of a tragedy, students asked for a new way to address concerns about alcohol and drugs. Today, Daniel Morrissey and the student-elected AIMS representatives are here to help answer questions about activities that may be harmful, either to students or those around them. Although AIMS does not keep records of any conversation, by the end of the second year over half of the class has spoken with an AIMS member at least once. We are available to answer any questions you may have regarding addiction issues, be they about yourselves, your friends, or family. Addiction issues include eating disorders, substance dependency, excessive computer usage, substance addiction, and more. Addictions illnesses can take various forms, and boundaries between acceptable and problem behaviors are not always clear. We encourage anyone with a concern to approach us with questions, even if they are not sure a real problem exists. While we are not counselors, we can serve as a contact point and information source for any questions you may have during your years at Columbia. |
