ABOUT UNIVERSITE PARIS 1 PANTHEON-SORBONNE

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY

From its beginnings in a schoolhouse in lower Manhattan, Columbia University has grown to encompass two principal campuses: the historic, neoclassical campus in the Morningside Heights neighborhood and the modern Medical Center further uptown, in Washington Heights. Today, Columbia is one of the top academic and research institutions in the world, conducting pathbreaking research in medicine, science, the arts, and the humanities. It includes three undergraduate schools, thirteen graduate and professional schools, and a school of continuing education.
Columbia University in the City of New York hosts 8,547 international students, interns, and scholars from more than 150 countries. For Fall 2005, the University enrolls 4,346 international students, oversees 1,229 international interns engaged in practical or academic training, and engages the participation of 1,991 international faculty, researchers, and visiting scholars and scientists. Columbia ranks fourth among the 2,500 US colleges and universities reporting international enrollments.

ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE

For more than two hundred years, Ecole Polytechnique, the most prestigious educational establishment in France, has been dedicated to educating students in Science and Technology at the highest level and in advanced research.

The mission of Ecole Polytechnique is to train students capable of devising and achieving complex and innovative projects at the highest-level possible, thanks to a strong pluriscientific culture. The Ecole's mission is also to train young men and women in leadership skills so that they can become tomorrow's outstanding scientists, researchers, managers and public officials.

Ecole Polytechnique, a state-supported Grande Ecole, with 2,500 students, 400 faculty members and 1,300 researchers, is a member of the ParisTech group which is composed of ten of the foremost French Graduate Institutes of Science & Technology in the Paris area.

There are many reasons why outstanding students in Science might choose to study at Ecole Polytechnique:
- A wide and comprehensive curriculum which offers each and every student a unique chance to choose from selected courses and map out his or her own professional goals
- The research center is on the cutting edge of most scientific fields; the development of partnerships -one of the most ambitious projects in Europe- has helped forge links with institutions of higher learning from all over the world
- Ecole Polytechnique's alumni hold key positions in the world of Science, Business and in the top ranks of the French specialized professions which serve the State
- Beyond its academic requirements, the school is committed to training young men and women of excellence for leadership, including through student clubs and service to the community, but also in sports and recreational activities which can be practiced on a large campus with all the necessary modern facilities just 20 minutes away from Paris.

These are some of the many reasons why Ecole Polytechnique has been regularly ranked at the top of undergraduate and graduate programs in Science and Technology among the French Grandes Ecoles and why it is considered as one of the finest institutions of higher learning in Science in the world. Directed by a board of trustees consisting of twenty-six leaders in business and industry, science, engineering, higher education and other managerial professions, Ecole Polytechnique is also supported by a very strong alumni association.

SCIENCESPO:
INSTITUT D'ETUDES POLITIQUES DE PARIS

Sciences Po was founded in 1872 as an independent alternative to the weighty university establishment of the day. It has, through many transformations, remained true to one goal: providing innovative, responsive, well-grounded education for leadership and service.

Located in Paris' Saint-Germain district, Sciences Po is a self-governing university, which enrolls over 6,500 students, including 2,200 international students, at undergraduate, professional, and doctoral levels.

Instruction is provided by a staff of some 1,400 teachers, a great majority of whom are solidly established as practitioners in their respective fields. This unusual type of faculty is anchored by a small nucleus of tenured professors teaching full-time at Sciences Po and 184 researchers pursuing their activity in 9 research centers.

Excellence of a unique establishment Sciences Po’s distinction comes out in its teaching methods. Its selective, demanding, multidisciplinary and specialized education, totally integrated into the international scene, is focused equally on educating students wishing to go into both the private or public sector or into research.

Sciences Po is neither strictly a business school nor a school for public servants. As an important establishment of higher education, it occupies a specific place within the university network.
Sciences Po enjoys notoriety and an excellent image within the private sector, and is ranked first in its specialized education in management. It is also the best performing program in its preparation for French and European public service recruitment exams. In addition, Sciences Po’s research centers and Doctoral School are internationally recognized.
