the Morningside Heights neighborhood and the modern Medical Center further
uptown, in Washington Heights. Today, Columbia is one of the top academic and
research institutions in the world, conducting pathbreaking research in
medicine, science, the arts, and the humanities. It includes three undergraduate

Sciences
Po:
Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris
Sciences Po was founded in 1872 as an
independent alternative to the weighty university establishment
of the day. It has, through many transformations, remained
true to one goal: providing innovative, responsive, well-grounded
education for leadership and service.
Located in Paris' Saint-Germain district, Sciences
Po is a self-governing university, which enrolls over 6,500
students, including 2,200 international students, at undergraduate,
professional, and doctoral levels.
Instruction is provided by a staff of some 1,400 teachers,
a great majority of whom are solidly established as practitioners
in their respective fields. This unusual type of faculty is
anchored by a small nucleus of tenured professors teaching
full-time at Sciences Po and 184 researchers pursuing their
activity in 9 research centers.
Excellence of a unique establishment Sciences Po’s distinction
comes out in its teaching methods. Its selective, demanding,
multidisciplinary and specialized education, totally integrated
into the international scene, is focused equally on educating
students wishing to go into both the private or public sector
or into research.
Sciences Po is neither strictly a business school nor a school
for public servants. As an important establishment of higher
education, it occupies a specific place within the university
network.
Sciences Po enjoys notoriety and an excellent image within
the private sector, and is ranked first in its specialized
education in management. It is also the best performing program in
its preparation for French and European public service recruitment
exams. In addition, Sciences Po’s research centers and
Doctoral School are internationally recognized.
Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
With eight hundred years of excellence to build
on, the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne is
the largest university in France today. Some forty thousand
students are enrolled in 14 teaching and research departments
(Unités de Formation et de Recherche, or UFR) and 4
Institutes, which offer top-level degree courses in law, political
science, economics, management and the humanities.
The university is located in the heart of the
Latin Quarter, in one of the largest campuses in the world,
and occupies part of the Sorbonne and other prestigious French
university buildings.
Paris I is at the center of
a rich network of international relations stretching across
the five continents and continues to play a major role in
the training of researchers, academics, judges, lawyers, senior
managers and top French civil servants. At the crossroads
of tradition and modernity, Paris I is at the forefront of
research and teaching in the fields of European studies, international
relations, management and communications. It aims to be a
major pole of research and learning in Europe in the 21st
century.
