Guy
Yelda was appointed Consul General of France in New York
in May 2008. Prior to his present post, he was
French Ambassador to Lithuania. A career diplomat, Mr. Yelda
already has experience of the United States, having spent
four years as Consul General in Los Angeles (1996 - 2000).
Before that, he served on the staff of the President (1992
-1993) and was later deputy head of the Office of Protocol
at the Elysée (1993 -1996). From 1985 to 1989 he was
attached to the French Embassy in London where he headed
the Press and Information Office.
Guy
Yelda, 53, is a graduate of Sciences Po and the National
School of
Administration. He entered the Foreign Service
in 1980. After an initial posting with the Ministry’s
Europe Section, he served as France’s permanent representative
to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok. He was later appointed deputy
director for the southern Africa and Indian Ocean section
at the Ministry.
