Columbia Leaders Visit South Asia

Last January, during a trip through India and Bangladesh, University leaders met with senior government officials, villagers, health workers, and Columbia researchers working on important advances in health, science, and economics in the region. “We left our visit to South Asia seeing the tremendous challenges of basic health, clean water, and ethnic turmoil, seeing it firsthand but also finding remarkable counterparts and remarkable enthusiasm at the very highest levels of government for our engagement, our cooperation, and our scientific collaboration,” said Earth Institute Director Jeffrey Sachs. “We came back absolutely committed to this and look forward to very exciting work between the University and our colleagues in South Asia in the months and years ahead.”
