Barzun Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Cultural historian and University Professor Emeritus Jacques Barzun ’27CC ’32GSAS has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the country’s highest civilian award—from President George W. Bush. “Jacques Barzun has influenced generations of serious readers,” said Bush. “Few academics of the last century have equaled his output and his influence.” Barzun has written and edited more than 30 critical and historical studies over the past eight decades. His most recent book, From Dawn to Decadence, was published in 2000.
