Happy Birthday Columbia

Columbia 250 kicked off with a flurry of programs

Last October’s Opening Weekend brought talks, tours, and the events pictured here, including the Great Teacher Awards, a book party for Stand, Columbia, symposia on genetics and constitutions, a birthday bash complete with student performances, a colossal cake and alma mater crowns for all, and Homecoming 2003 at Baker Field. On Saturday night Morningside hosted some 13,000 guests and students for a column-shaking concert by singer Wyclef Jean. A few weeks later, in a more stately observance, Columbia joined Trinity Church to mark its deepest origins in a service of commemoration at our downtown birthplace.

We’re having a great birthday. Join us for the celebrations ahead, including Community Day on September 18 and Closing Weekend, October 1 and 2, 2004. See the events calendar, page 20, and of course the C250 Web site at C250.columbia.edu.
