Columbia University Health Sciences officially changed its name to Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) last November.

The Medical Center, located in Washington Heights, includes the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the School of Dental and Oral Surgery, the School of Nursing, and the Mailman School of Public Health. “The major reason for this change is to establish the identity of Columbia University in the health sciences and its prominence here on 168th Street in relation to our schools,” said Gerald Fischbach, executive vice president for health and biomedical sciences.

The new name is part of a larger effort to enhance the profile of the Medical Center led by branding consultants at Landor Associates, who have worked with the deans and communications departments from all four schools to develop an improved identity system for the CUMC.
