Yiddish is alive and well on the Upper West Side,” declared Deborah Strauss, violinist and one half of the renowned Strauss-Warschauer Duo, at a winter concert and dance party with the Columbia Klezmer Band that packed the Kraft Center auditorium. Jeremy Dauber, Atran Assistant Professor of Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture, served as master of ceremonies for the delighted audience of alumni, parents, faculty, administrators, students, neighbors, and friends. The Columbia Klezmer Concert and Dance Party marked the first collaboration between the newly established undergraduate degree program in Yiddish Studies at Columbia and Columbia/Barnard Hillel.
