Images, sacramental authority, and mass media technologies are the key topics which have inspired my thinking on contemporary forms of the Coptic Orthodox tradition in Egypt.

During my fieldwork based primarily in Cairo, I have followed saintly images and practices of intercession in order to launch and investigate questions regarding the nature of religious authority and mediation in the modern world. My research and teaching interests include the following: religion and modernity, media technologies and mediation, mobility and movement, images and material imaginaries, bodily perception and the sensory, political theologies.
