theoretical archaeology group

May 23rd to 25th 2008 at Columbia University in the City of New York

The Theoretical Archaeology Group (TAG) has been organizing an annual meeting in the UK since 1979, with the aim of promoting debate and discussion of issues in archaeological theory.

TAG-NYC marks the first time that TAG has come to the US. It will be running in tandem with the British TAG meetings, which will be held in Southampton from the 15th to the 17th December 2008, and in Durham in December 2009.

TAG also has a Scandinavian offshoot, Nordic TAG, which was held in aarhus, Denmark in May 2007.

tag's ethos

TAG aims to be inclusive, informal, and low cost. It is run entirely by volunteers from the sponsoring institution and it welcomes and encourages participation from students and archaeologists working outside of academic settings.

As such there is no membership fee; participants pay a registration fee that covers the cost of the conference, the conference program and book of abstracts, and the reception on the opening night.

the future

We are pleased to announce that a TAG conference will be held at Stanford University in 2009 and at Brown University in 2010

We are currently forming a National Committe for TAG in the US, and welcome inquiries about participating in TAG's future organization.
