Volunteer Labs

The Archaeology Volunteer Lab Join us each Friday in the archaeology lab, 954 Schermerhorn Extension, from 2pm to 5pm for our volunteer lab sessions. No experience is required, and visitors of all ages and academic standings are welcome. Participants will receive training in pottery analysis, reconstruction, drawing, cleaning and numbering; drawing in the field; and research. Guided visits to local museums are usually offered as well. Some of our current lab projects include: The Clarence Young Collection The Columbia Collection of Mediterranean Artifacts Dr. Ralph Solecki's Projects (1980s) Professor Solecki's discoveries over the years Upper Paleolithic material from Shanidar Cave, northern Iraq Labwork on campus related to Rose Solecki's material Open Hours in the Osteology Lab The osteology lab, 865 Schermerhorn Extension, is open to all students with an interest in human and other primate bones. No previous coursework or experience required. The lab will be open for student explorations the first and last Friday of each month from 4pm to 6pm.
