Columbia Archery Club

Q: Do I need experience or my own equipment to join the club?
A: No, most of our members had no previous experience and no personal equipment before joining. Experience is always a plus, but instruction will be provided to all members regardless of experience level. As for equipment, only dedicated (or rich) archers have their own; archery is an expensive sport!

Q: When and where does the club practice?
A: Practice is held three times a week: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Practice on Saturdays is only for those who know how to shoot and set up their own equipment. We practice indoors in the Barnard LeFrak Gymnasium throughout the year and in the spring we practice outdoors at Baker Field on Saturdays.

Q: Where is the Barnard Lefrak Gymnasium?
A: The gym is in Barnard Hall, the building directly in front of you when you enter the Barnard campus through the main gates. Go through the pair of double doors and turn right. At the end of the hallway, before the elevator and stairs, there should be doors on your left leading into the gym.
Look here for a campus map.

Q: Do I have to pay to join the club?
A: Yes, all club sports are required to collect dues. This year, dues are $30 per semester for undergraduates and $40 per semester for everyone else. For new members, there is a three week trial period at the beginning of each semester during which you can attend practice for free to see if you're interested. Dues from all members are due by the end of the trial period. Club dues go toward tournament registration fees, team travel expenses and new equipment.

Q: Do I have to attend all the practices or compete in tournaments?
A: No, participation in club sports is voluntary, and you decide the commitment you want to make. We are all busy people, so it's not a problem if you can't attend all the practices or compete in tournaments.

If you want to compete, the coach will first have to decide if you're prepared to do so. We attend tournaments in the tri-state area as well as out of state (roadtrips!), and they're all a lot of fun. Obviously, if you want to shoot well at tournaments, you need to attend practice regularly. Otherwise it's just embarassing...

Q: Where else can I shoot in New York City?
A: There are two public shooting ranges in New York City, both in Queens:
