Resumed the name, location, and mission of a previous festival, focusing on recent production about art and archaeology with an emphasis on education and good cinematography. Biennial festival of recent films on archaeology, organized by themes. Selective and pedagogic, parts of the program tour regional schools and cultural centers following the festival. The fourth festival featured sections on Roman and pre-Roman Italy, computer-assisted reconstructions, frozen tombs, and archaeology in the news. Established in 1990. Director: Tahar Ben Redjeb.

Franco-Italian cultural event consisting of two weeks of screenings and related talks presented by Istituto francese di Firenze with the collaboration of Archeologia Viva magazine and Concordia, a local cultural organization. Selective audiovisual programing is handled by Rassegna Internazionale del Cinema Archeologico di Rovereto (see below). The second year's program covered eight diversified archaeological topics, as well as an afternoon devoted to films about the restoration of paintings by three Italian early Renaissance masters. Biennial festival and scholarly conference on recent films about archaeology. Focuses on recent international production, previous international prize winners, notable older productions, and experimental archaeology. In addition, the second festival included special sections focusing on early moving image devices (accompanied by an exhibition) and the presentation of a new restored version of Nosferatu, both in honor of the centenary of the cinema. Established in 1994. Director: Kurt Denzer.

New biennial festival focusing on short films about archaeology in the Mediterranean region from prehistory to modern times. The first festival included daytime programming of films about archaeology in competition. Evenings were devoted to documentaries about other aspects of Mediterranean culture. Festival of recent films about archaeology held annually from 1990-1994. The sixth festival, to be held concurrently with the UISPP meetings and the separate Archeoexpo [see below], will feature a section on pre- and protohistory. A roundtable on the relationship between archaeology and cinema is planned on the afternoon of the 15th. Director: Roberto Penza.

Sidebar at the 13th Congress of the International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (UISPP), held every five years in a different location. For the first time, the 1996 Congress will include an audiovisual market and exhibition with non-stop screenings on pre- and protohistory, sales and demonstration facilities equipped for video, videodiscs, and CD-ROMs. Organizer: Roberto Penza, Athena File.

Annual festival of recent films on archaeology, organized by themes. In honor of the Unesco's 50th anniversary, the seventh festival will focus on the preservation and appreciation of archaeological sites and artifacts with a special section on ancient Rome. A popular section on international news reports about the field continues into its third year. Established in 1990. Entry deadline: May 15. Director: Dario Di Blasi.
