Policy Regarding Exemptions
Art Humanities
Masterpieces of Western Art C1121/ Fine Arts F1121
- Advanced Placement credit in Art History is not grounds for exemption
from Art Humanities.
- Exemption may be granted to transfer students who have completed a
comparable college-level course in Art History and received a grade no
lower than B-. To obtain such an exemption, please submit a written
request to Professor Jonathan Crary, Director of Art Humanities, 826
Schermerhorn, with the following information:
- Your Name, Address and Phone Number
- Name of Course
- Name of Instructor
- Date when course was taken
- University/College where taken
- General Description of the Course including writing assignments,
principal readings, number of weekly classes, etc.
- Copy of transcript with Finals Grade
- Self-addressed stamped envelope
- Please specify if you are enrolled in Columbia College or the School of General Studies.
Your request will be reviewed by the Director of Art Humanities in
consultation with the faculty of the Art History Department. If all of the
information listed above is provided, a decision will be made within a
week, and you will be notified. No action can be taken on incomplete
petitions.
