Giulia graduated from Sussex University (UK) and holds two master's degree in art history. Her doctoral dissertation (Columbia University, 2015) focuses on the history of photography in Senegal. Her research was supported by awards and fellowships from the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston inter alia. In 2015, was was guest curator for the exhibition "In and Out of the Studio: Photographic Portraits from West Africa" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her writing has appeared in journals and publications including the The Studio Museum in Harlem, African Arts, and the Met's Bulletin.
