Access & Circulation

The Visual Resources Collection exists to support the curricular and research needs of the Department of Art History and Archaeology. The Collection is operated and funded by the Department of Art History and Archaeology and is not a university-wide facility. The Department reserves the right to deny or limit access to individuals or groups not affiliated with the Department of Art History and Archaeology.

Guidelines

1 One of the priorities of the Slide Collection is to ensure unhindered access to slides for AHAR faculty members. That is, slides should be available when AHAR faculty need them. No AHAR member should be inconvenienced by any lenient extension of the Borrowing Policy as stated.

2 If a visitor to the Slide Collection is not eligible to borrow slides or cannot meet the borrowing terms as stated in the Borrowing Policy, he/she will not be able to borrow slides. If the visitor nevertheless feels he/she has a legitimate case for borrowing slides, the only individuals authorized to extend the Borrowing Policy are 1. the Visual Resources Curator, 2. the Department Chairman. All problems regarding extension of the Borrowing Policy should be brought to the Visual Resources Curator before involving other members of the department.

3 AHAR GRADUATE STUDENTS ATTENDING JOB INTERVIEWS
It is department policy to support students in their job searches. The Slide Collection will lend slides for interview presentations, but not before consulting with the faculty members who teach in the subject area(s) from which the slides will be taken.

4 AHAR GRADUATE STUDENTS TEACHING COURSES OUTSIDE OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
No students (or any others) may borrow slides for this purpose. It is the responsibility of the institution where they will be teaching to provide slides.
