T.J. Wilcox was born in Seattle, WA, in 1963 and came to New York in 1986. Solo shows have been organized at Kunsthaus, Glarus, Switzerland (2000) and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (1998). his work has been featured in Group Exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art (2000), the Louisiana Museum of Art (1998) and the Venice Biennale (1997), among others.

Wilcox’s early projects are poetic cine-collages that re-choreograph the cultural construction of romantic historical icons such as Marie Antoinette, Marlene Dietrich and Stephen Tennant. Fragments of vintage and newly shot film footage are process-pasted together, copied onto video and then back again onto 16mm film. More recently Wilcox has created digital video works, such as Ladies Room (2002) and Midnite Movie (2001), which further mine the intersections between cinema and personal history.
