To complete my MFA, I attended Columbia in the evening, for two years. I took German and French (my degree from Sarah Lawrence College did not require languages), Art History with Jane Henley and Dustin Rice, and Sculpture with Peter Agostini.

We drew from the model in Peter's classes and his insistence that we begin these efforts with the negative space (instead of an arm or leg) taught us how to see. This simple practice produced amazing results, which combined with his enthusiasm and encouragement, led to many lifelong careers in sculpture, including mine.

My work is primarily concerned with enlivening the space occupied or enclosed by the materials I use. Although the materials often provide the initial inspiration, making them disappear, as such, is the achievement.
